It's National Puzzle Day!

It’s almost January 29th and you know what that means! It’s national puzzle day! If you enjoy escape rooms, you probably love puzzles as much as we do! If you’re trying to find a fun birthday party idea for your favorite puzzle enthusiast, or a team building activity for your puzzle-loving workplace, look no further than the best escape room in Arlington! If you’d like to celebrate puzzles with us, read on!

Our Supervillains escape room has lots of puzzles!

National Puzzle Day was started 20 years ago by puzzle creator and writer Jill Jodi to spread her love of crossword and word search style puzzles, especially in the realm of education. She still provides puzzles for free on her site every year, and you can check them out here. Crosswords have always been a love of ours, and you’ll find us enjoying them, too!

Escape rooms have a storied history with puzzles. The standard escape room concept evolved from scavenger hunt style puzzle hunts across city blocks - think of The Amazing Race or similar TV shows - and merged these concepts with popular puzzle games of the 1990’s through mid-2000’s. Puzzle hunts are still vastly popular across the United States - the annual MIT puzzle hunt happened just this past month!

Speaking of puzzle hunts, we recently were honored to collaborate with our friends at Labyrinth Games and Puzzles on a puzzle hunt in 2019 (though if I’m honest, they did all of the cool work!). If you’re into jigsaw puzzles, Burr puzzles, Tangrams, or anything in between, definitely check them out! They’ve recently stocked high-difficulty items such as Hanayama cast puzzles and the notorious Ice-9 puzzle, and they have many educational puzzles and games if you’re into those as well.

As a final note about puzzles, we also love riddles! From the old King’s Quest games to our favorite Batman villain, riddles have been a fun pastime and very formative for the escape room industry. Our Supervillains room thematically features several. If those riddles aren’t enough for you, here’s a few more:

  • I travel all over the world, but always stay in my corner. What am I?

  • What makes you young?

  • What breaks yet never falls, and what falls but never breaks?

  • When you have more, you can only see less.  What am I?

  • What can fill a room but takes up no space?

Whether you love jigsaw puzzles, riddles, cryptography, or Martin Gardner’s devious coconut riddle, Escape Room Arlington has all the puzzles for you! If you need a change of pace and some adventure for your next family night out, or your next corporate event, come to the best escape room in the DC area. We’ll provide the puzzles!
